In this video I will give you an introduction to lxc containers and how you can use lxd to work with machine containers. lxd is a light weight alternative to hypervisors. You can spin up a virtual machine very quickly. It is very light on resources. I will be using Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine in this demo and show you how to install and launch machine containers. LXC is a native form of containers available in the mainline Linux kernel for several years now. Unlike Docker, LXC provides a full "system" container and can even be used for GUI desktop environments. In this video I show how to install and setup LXC on a Fedora 26 host as well as how to create your first container (also Fedora 26) which is very minimal... and how to build it up via package manager to a complete GUI container including video and audio playback accessed via the x2go remoting protocol that runs over ssh. I did make a few minor mistakes and typos along the way, but making mistakes is how we learn, right? I have also made GUI containers of other distributions including CentOS 7, Ubuntu 16.04, Debian 9, and OpenSUSE 42.3... using the pre-made OS Templates shown listed in the video... using their native packages managers, mostly the same packages, and all running systemd and accessible via x2go. Screencast recorded under Fedora 26 with simplescreenrecorder from the rpmfusion repository. I also made a follow-up video that shows how to record a screencast from within the container.

In this video, I'm going to setup a LXC container running CentOS7 to run PLEX. I will configure GPU passthrough to allow the container access to the Quadro P2000 so that PLEX can use it for hardware transcoding. Along the way, I'll show you how to install PLEX on CentOS7, as well as install the necessary nvidia CUDA driver files to enable hardware transcoding in PLEX. Quick demonstration on how to use a Linux LXC/LXD virtual machine container to build and deploy a Blazor server application to a standard Linux Ubuntu instance. This will work with any Linux install that has the LXD container system available to it, and it will run locally on an old laptop/PC/server as well as running just the same in a VM on Amazon cloud, Azure or any other remote VM system running a regular Linux distro.
Dieses Mal zeige ich Euch, wie Ihr Linux Container (LXC) auf dem Raspberry Pi (4 oder P400) verwendet, um in Containern gleichzeitig verschiedene Linux-Distributionen (Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, openSUSE, Alpine, etc.) in Containern – ganz ohne Docker – laufen zu lassen. Auch wenn Docker und LXC dieselben Technologien verwenden, sind LXC-Container für den langfristigen Gebrauch gedacht und kommen z.B. bei Hostern oder in Proxmox zum Einsatz. Neben der Einrichtung von LXC auf einem Raspberry Pi 4 unter Debian 11 ARM64 zeige ich Euch die Grundlangen (Container erstellen, starten, stoppen, etc.), sowie die erweiterte Konfiguration (Portweiterleitung von Containerports auf die Netzwerkschnittstele des Pis, Netzwerkbrückenkonfiguration (damit sich die Container im Netzwerk wie normale Rechner verhalten), Starten von Containern als unpriviligierter Benutzer, SSH-Server-Installation, Snapshots, etc.). Dazu gibt es ein paar Anmerkungen zum Thema Containersicherheit.
