In this video I show you how to make homemade lemon turmeric soap. Thank you for watching❣️ 🟢Learn to formulate your own soap recipes here: 🤍 🟢Etsy shop: 🤍 🟢Citric acid information: When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap. A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water. These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap. A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases. Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level. How much citric acid should be added to soap? Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight. 🟢Get the soap formulator’s workbook + a free recipe booklet here → 🤍 In this soap making video I share my favorite cold process soap recipe right now. This soap is palm free and vegan, and in my humble opinion, the best handmade soap recipe😎 I often make this soap with a few variations. This time, I tried it with grapeseed oil and I really liked the end result. I also experimented with alkanet root infused olive oil to try to achieve a natural purple color. It worked out okay, but I think I could’ve used a bit more alkanet for a more intense color. Do you want to learn how to formulate your own favorite soap recipe? Check out the soap formulator’s workbook here: 🤍 Thank you for watching! Please wear proper safety equipment when making soap. My favorite cold process soap recipe: Recipe calculated with: 🤍 Oils: 192 g alkanet root infused olive oil (32%) 42 g castor oil (7%) 36 g grapeseed oil (6%) 168 g coconut oil (28%) 90 g shea butter (15%) 72 g cocoa butter (12%) Lye solution: 125 g distilled water 10 g citric acid 89.8 g sodium hydroxide (83.8 g if not using citric acid) (40% lye concentration, 5% superfat) Additives: 45 g coconut cream 10 ml fragrance oil for a light scent Cure the soap for 4-6 weeks before using it on your skin. ○ Citric acid information When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. If you want to customize soap down to the last ingredient, cold process is a great option. Cold process soap is made by combining oils and sodium hydroxide lye. That causes a chemical reaction called saponification. Melt and pour soap has already gone through that process. Once you find your perfect recipe you can start getting creative with the designs. You get to choose the oils, colorants, scents, and more. In this video, we go over the basic tools and ingredients you need to get started. We also go over safety when working with lye, how to make soap, and how to clean up. Find more resources below! The Best Cold Process Soap Recipe (extra moisture and lots of lather)

This is a great recipe for a bar of soap that everyone in the family can use. It is moisturizing, has lots of lather, and is gentle on the skin. If you want a printable version of the recipe, grab it here: 🤍 Beginner Soap Makers, Read This First: 🤍 The Best Cold Process Soap Recipe: 11 oz. coconut oil 9 oz. olive oil 9 oz. palm oil 2 oz. sweet almond oil 4 oz. castor oil 4 oz. avocado oil 2 oz. mango butter 5.83 oz of lye 10-15 oz. water 3 T. of fragrance (for a strong scent, vary this to your preferences) Instructions: 1. Using a digital scale, measure out the lye and water in separate glass containers. Combine them by adding the lye to the water. (Remember: snow floats on the lake.). Stir until the lye dissolves. The temperature will shoot up. Place this in a safe place to cool. 2. While the lye solution is cooling, measure out the oils and butters and combine them in a large stainless pot. Melt them over low heat and heat them up to 130-140 degrees. Set them aside to cool. 3. After 2 hours, check the temperature of both solutions. They should be around 110 degrees. (A range of 100-120 is fine.). If not, allow them to cool longer. 4. Prepare your mold and measure out any fragrance or color you will be adding. (For best blending of colors, mix some color into a few drops of melted oils.). If using sodium lactate, add it to the lye water at this time. 5. Pour the water and lye solution into the pot with the melted oils. Blend with a stick blender until thin trace is reached. The soap batter will noticeable thicken and a trail of soap will sit on top of the liquid rather than immediately sinking in. (This will take about 1 minute.). Add the color and fragrance and stir by hand. 6. Immediately pour the soap batter into the mold. Place in a turned off oven or wrap with blankets to insulate the soap. 7. After 24 hours of curing, unmold and cut into bars. The bars may seem slightly soft but will harden considerably during the curing process. Allow to cure at least 3 weeks in a well-ventilated place. RESIZED 30 OUNCE BATCH for smaller molds: Almond oil: 1.46 ounces Avocado oil: 2.92 ounces Castor Oil: 2.92 ounces Coconut Oil: 8.05 ounces Mango butter: 1.46 ounces Olive Oil: 6.58 ounces Palm Oil: 6.58 ounces Lye: 4.25 ounces Water: 7-11 ounces Hi there and welcome to my channel, Heart’s Content Farmhouse. Formulating your own cold process soap recipes is easy! In this video, Bramble Berry CEO and Founder, Anne-Marie Faiola, goes over the basics of formulating cold process soap recipes. To create your own recipe, start by choosing your base oils. You can use each one around 20-30%. For the remaining portion, consider what you’d like the bar to feel like. Do you want it to be super moisturizing, have a nice thick lather, or to be hard and long lasting? How you want your soap to feel and look will guide you in choosing your oils. You can never go wrong with a 34/33/33 ratio. That’s 34% olive oil, 33% coconut oil, and 33% palm oil. They’re commonly used because they complement each other well. Palm oil acts as a secondary lathering agent and hardens the soap, coconut oil is cleansing and produces big bubbles, and olive oil is moisturizing and gives bars a silky feeling. Making soap with one of the world's most powerful plants - sea buckthorn

In this video a make cold process soap with sea buckthorn berries. Thanks for watching! 🟢Learn to formulate your own soap recipes here: 🤍 🟢Etsy shop: 🤍 🟢Citric acid information: When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. How to use citric acid Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils. In under fifteen minutes, Roe Sie, from the King's Roost, shows you how to make a basic bar soap from scratch, using only organic olive and coconut oils, lye, and ice water. RECIPE: Organic olive oil: 1,680 grams Organic coconut oil: 683 grams Lye: 337 grams Ice water: 787 grams Add essential fragrant oils to make it smell even better we used vanilla and sandalwood this time. DELISH. It's a fast and fun DIY project; it makes a great gift, and it feels awesome to use homemade soap instead of a lot of weird chemicals on your body. Get creative with your essential oil blends, add seeds, grains, mica and flower petals, and please let us know which combinations you love! Take the safety precautions seriously use protective eyewear, cover up all skin, and handle the caustic lye with extreme care. Keep all ingredients away from kids and pets. And use a gram scale to be accurate in getting your lye, water, and oil ratios exactly right. The water measurement includes any ice you use. I use about half ice and half water, and measure it by weight to equal 787 grams. It's important not to be sloppy and no guesswork here, please. The process is pretty fast, especially once you've done it a few times and have the hang of it. But be sure to let your soap cure (dry out) for 4-6 weeks so it doesn't turn into a slimy goopy mess in the shower... or, worse yet, irritate anyone's skin. We sell our own homemade soap in a variety of delicious flavors here: 🤍 Plus, check out the King's Roost website at 🤍 for more DIY projects! HAVE FUN AND KEEP US POSTED ON HOW YOUR SOAP-MAKING ADVENTURE GOES!

I created this eucalyptus mint soap using a drop swirl followed by a few passes with a hanger swirl tool. I took the final photos about 4 days after cutting the soap. Find the full recipe here to print: 🤍 Coffee Ground Soap INGREDIENTS ⭐️ (I use nurture soap for my oils and fragrances): 🤍?aff=326 10 ounces cooled brewed coffee 4.3 ounces lye 9 ounces coconut oil 9 ounces olive oil 2 ounces castor oi 8 ounces palm oil 2 ounces shea butter 2 tablespoons ground coffee INSTRUCTIONS Make the lye and coffee solution. Measure out the lye and coffee in separate containers using a digital scale. The coffee must be cooled to room temperatue. Carefully add the lye to the coffee and stir until it is fully dissolved. The liqiud will shoot up in temperature and give off a burned coffee smell. Set aside to cool in a safe place. Melt the oil and butters. Measure the oils separately, then combine them in a large pot. Melt the over medium-low heat until the shea butter is fully melted. Set aside to cool. Stick blend to trace. Once the coffee solution and oils have both cooled to about 100-115 degrees, it's time to blend. Get out your coffee grounds, soap molds and any fragrance or color you'll be adding. Pour the lye water into the pot with the oils and blend with your stick blender until you reach trace. Add fragrance and color if using, and quickly pour into the soap mold. Cure and unmold. Allow the soap to cure in the mold for 24-48 hours, then carefully remove it. Slice into bars. Store in a well-ventilated place and let it cure more for at least 3 weeks before using. NOTES The burnt coffee smell will not be present in the finished soap. Try adding an espresso, chocolate, or mint fragrance at trace. I am learning this craft myself too. :) This loaf (1092 grams) scented with Lemon Zest Please feel free to write a comment below. This is the recipe I used for this loaf, but as you know, i'm still learning this process, so keep that in mind that it might NOT work for you. Water: 193 grams ( 6.80 oz )( 25% water discount ) Lye : 111 grams ( 3.91 oz ) Add half tea spoon sea salts and brown/white sugar into the water and make SURE it dissolves fully. Once it's all liquid, add your lye and lightly stir for 10 second. Then leave until 100 F (37.7c) * Note if you have sugar or salt still in the water when you add the lye it will harden and it will not dissolve anymore. So make sure it's all dissolved. * Add your lye in a well ventilated area (or outside). Fragrance: 35 grams ( 1.23 oz ) Olive Oil : 250 grams ( 8.81 oz ) Coconut Oil (Copha) : 250 grams ( 8.81 oz ) - Melt down Rice Bran Oil : 150 grams ( 5.29 oz ) Grape Seed Oil : 150 grams ( 5.29 oz ) Calendula petals = 5 grams * Melt down = 100f (37.7c) so they are the same (or around) as the lye water. Cold Process and Melt & Pour Soap Making - Combining CP & MP Soap. Timeline & recipe below. This simple soap was going to be my entry for the CP + MP Soap Challenge Club last month, but I just ran out of time. Since I recorded the whole process, I thought I’d make a video anyway. I apologize for the shaking table at times. I'm in a temporary location at the moment. Hopefully that will be fixed next time. If I left anything out or you simply have a question about something, just comment below, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you for watching! And if you liked this video or subscribed to my channel, thank you so much!! In case you’re interested, I have an affiliate store where I’ve listed all of the soap making supplies and materials that I purchase on Amazon: 🤍 If you use those links to buy anything, it won’t cost you anything extra, but I will receive a very small percentage of the sale. Every little bit helps, though, so thank you very much if you do! :) This was my first time to use melt and pour soap, and I was really pleased at how easy it was to get vibrant colors using very little of my herb and spice infused oils. One more thing about the melt and pour - I was worried it wouldn't stick to the cold process (especially since I let the CP soap sit for so long). At first it seemed that way, but after the cut bars sat for a day, I couldn't budge the mp. ••• SAFETY INFO ••• Remember to always wear safety glasses and gloves when making soap.
