We have a 2008 Ford Explorer that the customer complained of a misfire (jerking under a load) and a check engine light. After first checking for codes we found a P0305, P0316 and a P1285. The next step to the diagnostic process was a visual inspection. Since the P0305 was the first code and a cylinder #5 misfire we use the process fuel, fire and compression. The coil, boot and plug was the easiest to check first and upon inspection we found the boot saturated with engine coolant. Also, the coil and spring also shown signs of coolant intrusion. This was a big give away to our problem. If no coolant had been evident then we would have proceeded to check for spark, fuel then compression. Not all diagnostics are this simple and quick. M113 engine experiencing obd2 code p0305 Aka misfire on cylinder #5 Symptoms 1: Car started hesitating, jerking when trying to accelerate 2: check engine light came on 3: not able to reach highway speeds Note: Always use a obd2 scanner! Strongly suggest getting a tune up done With spark plugs, wires and coil packs at this point This service should be done at 100,000 miles or every 5 years with an m113 engine Hopefully this helps anyone out there in the world with this issue
Diagnosing a P0305 cylinder 5 misfire code on my 2011 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7 Hemi. Replacing spark plugs and coil pack did not fix the issue. This was the start of my journey the ended with me building a custom 392 Stroker motor to replace this destroyed, metal shaving filled motor.
2007 F150 5.4 running rough. Had a P0305 cylinder 5 misfire code. Checking the misfire data showed cylinder 5 as the only cylinder that's registering misfires. Not a dead misfire but definitely misfiring. Start with the simple things. Swap coils and it stays at cylinder 5. Inspect the spark plug and it's been changed. Thank God! Truck sounds fine while cranking so the next thing to check would be the fuel injector. Resources online, YouTube/forums/etc, are full of how to do fancy testing. Labscoping, fuel injector pressure drop testing, etc. These are all great tests that are usually required to find difficult problems. However, not everything is a difficult problem. Don't forget the simple test of checking resistance. Resistance has almost become like a taboo subject online. But if it's quick and easy to do then do it. If you get a good resistance value that does not mean you have a good part. But if you get a BAD resistance value then that DOES mean you have a bad part! Get a bad value and you're done. No need to do anything more involved than that! You know you have a bad fuel injector. Order up a few and check them all when you're replacing the one. This 2005 Bmw x3 had misfire on cylinders 2 and 5, I checked fuel pressure, vacuum leak, ignition coil, spark plugs, everything looked fine, until I found that someone cut couple wires from the computer box.
My 1997 Camaro RS has a significant cylinder misfire. P0305 - Cylinder number 5 misfire. I checked the spark plug and the plug wires, and even tested the coil pack with a multimeter. Error Codes cleared after normal drive cycle. Its been a month since this video & our Camry is Still running great with a new Denso Coil & Spark Plug Replacement ( Cylinder five). Customer was stating check engine light is on and engine tick noise. Confirmed the tick noise coming from cylinder 5 and check engine light on for P0305 (cylinder 5 misfire.) Removed the cylinder head found lifter damage on cylinder 5 and camshaft lobe damage. Noticed the cam bearings have excessive wear, will be recommending a new engine.

In this video I diagnose an apparent engine misfire using the Autel MaxiCheck Pro. It displays a code P0305 Cylinder 5 misfire. I change the coil pack to a used unit I keep in the trunk and test-drive to confirm the misfire is gone after erasing the code. I also observed on an earlier drive that the rear left brake was hot from an improperly adjusted parking brake shoe. After readjusting the shoe off-camera and completion of the test-drive, I check brake temperature using an infrared thermometer.
Car suddenly threw a cylinder 5 misfire code. Upon starting up there are many pops and bangs out of the exhaust but that seems to stop after about 30ish seconds. Swapped around plugs and coils but misfire remains on cylinder 5. Fuel injector was replaced and nothing changed. The car hits on all 10 when the engine is warm and at idle, when given throttle the compression drops down to 30 psi then 5-10 seconds later the car runs smoothly again. This has led my mechanic to believe that is the the hydraulic lifters and/or valve springs. He says he has a video of this so I will try to get that from him to show you. The car is not in limp mode and still runs pretty well despite the misfire. You can definitely tell the car is not running like its supposed to but idle is pretty steady and there isn't a significant increase in vibrations, my mechanic says the car will shut off the fuel injector when is keeps misfiring.
In this video I will be using Snap on Vantage MT2400 to analyze spark KV on 2012 Chevy Tahoe to find reason for cylinder 5 misfire. Faulty spark plug was found after tune up was done early that day. Thanks for watching.
