Load Balancing is a key concept to system design. One simple way would be hashing all requests and then sending them to the assigned server. The standard way to hash objects is to map them to a search space, and then transfer the load to the mapped computer. A system using this policy is likely to suffer when new nodes are added or removed from it. Some terms you would here in system design interviews are Fault Tolerance, in which case a machine crashes. And Scalability, in which case machines need to be added to process more requests. Another term used often is request allocation. This means assigning a request to a server. Load balancing is often tied with service discovery and global locks. The type of load we want to balance is that of sticky sessions. Looking to ace your next interview? Load balance pada mikrotik adalah teknik untuk mendistribusikan beban trafik pada dua atau lebih jalur koneksi secara seimbang, agar trafik dapat berjalan optimal, memaksimalkan throughput, memperkecil waktu tanggap dan menghindari overload pada salah satu jalur koneksi. Selama ini banyak dari kita yang salah beranggapan, bahwa dengan menggunakan loadbalance dua jalur koneksi, maka besar bandwidth yang akan kita dapatkan menjadi dua kali lipat dari bandwidth sebelum menggunakan loadbalance (akumulasi dari kedua bandwidth tersebut). Hal ini perlu kita perjelas dahulu, bahwa loadbalance tidak akan menambah besar bandwidth yang kita peroleh, tetapi hanya bertugas untuk membagi trafik dari kedua bandwidth tersebut agar dapat terpakai secara seimbang. Pada percobaan kali ini kita akan menggunakan fitur yang disebut PCC (Per Connection Classifier). Dengan PCC kita bisa mengelompokkan trafik koneksi yang melalui atau keluar masuk router menjadi beberapa kelompok. Pengelompokan ini bisa dibedakan berdasarkan src-address, dst-address, src-port dan atau dst-port. In my quest to make my services highly available I decided to use keepalived. keepalived is a framework for both load balancing and high availability that implements VRRP. This is a protocol that you see on some routers and has been implemented in keepalived. It creates a Virtual IP (or VIP, or floating IP) that acts as a gateway to route traffic to all participating hosts. This VIP that can provide a high availability setup and fail over to another host in the event that one is down. A stateful load balancing scheme keeps track of session states. Sessions can mean different things to different users. Stateful load balancing can keep the state of a TCP session or other more advanced sessions that software may establish between endpoints. Keeping the state of a session between endpoints and then using that session information to make the decision of how to forward traffic keeps the incoming requests and existing request load “in balance” or so the stateful load balancer hopes.
