There was a time when, if I ran into an issue with Arch where it wouldn't boot, I would most likely have just wiped the disk and reinstalled. Thankfully, that's almost never necessary if you use chroot to access the non-booting system to fix the problem. This is a very brief look at how to use arch-chroot to do just that. Note that I can't possibly account for all the possible reasons that your system might not boot so the point of this is to show how you boot from the installation media and access the broken system. From there, you need to figure out what the problem is using error logs , perhaps uninstall recently installed packages, and so on. 🤍 #arch #linux #chroot

In this video I am going to show you how you can "reset" Arch Linux to the base system if your system becomes unstable, or you want to change DE or WM (although it's possible to have multiple DE's and WM's in one installation). I wanted to use my personal project on GitLab as it contains all the packages I usually install in the base. The only data I changed are the passwords, which were replaced with "new" ones. In this video I cover installing and using Timeshift, a simple to use backup and restore utility for Linux configurations. 🤍 Timeshift provides similar functionality to the System Restore feature in Windows and Time Machine in Mac OS, and works by taking incremental snapshots of your file system at regular intervals, which can then be restored later to undo all changes to a system. Step 1. Install Timeshift. Timeshift can be installed using your distribution’s package manager. Some supported distributions include Ubuntu and its flavours, Zorin OS, Elementary OS, Pop OS, Fedora, Debian, Manjaro OpenSUSE, and Arch. But if you are using Linux Mint or Garuda Linux, then Timeshift is already installed. Step 2. Using Timeshift. The first time you run Timeshift you will be greeted with a wizard, giving you the option of either using RSYNC or BTRFS for the Snapshot type, so unless you are using BTRFS as your file system choose the RSYNC option. No matter what option you choose, you need specify the Snapshot location, which by default will be the root directory, set a time for when a snapshot is created, and how many snapshots you wish at one time. By default, this will be once a day, up to maximum of five saved snapshots, all located in the root directory, but if you ever want to change this, then you can click the Settings button. Either way to create a Snapshot, click the Create button. Step 3. Restoring Using Timeshift. To restore from a previously created snapshot, click the Restore button, specify the snapshot and begin the process. Once finished, the system will automatically reboot. Alternatively to restore from a TTY1 prompt, sign in using your credentials, and type the following: sudo timeshift restore Next select the Snapshot from the list, reinstall GRUB and specify the location of your Linux installation. Again, once the process is completed, your system will reboot. #timeshift #linux #backup
In this video we're looking at Back In Time as a backup solution for your personal files and home directory. This video is not to talk bad about Arch Linux or archinstall. This official script to automate some of the Arch installation steps could be extremely helpful, but as of April 2021, it needs more work. Maybe by the time you read this, this script has already been improved. Otherwise you'll have to stick with installing Arch the manual way, installing an Arch-based distribution like Manjaro or Endeavour, or using an unofficial installer like Zen Installer or Anarchy Linux. Full Disclosure: Though I'm no stranger to Linux, I am a bit of a newb with Arch. In this video I'm going to stumble my way through installing Arch Linux. I start with the Arch Linux install USB, configure my system to boot from UEFI and then install the Gnome desktop environment and Steam, Valve's gaming platform. Along the way I encounter some weird stuff including Vim barfing at me, and some font issues with Steam. By then end I'm up and running playing (streaming) GTA V on the little ASRock Beebox. If you aren't familiar with the ASRock Beebox, it is an Intel N3000 dual-core CPU in a tiny half liter enclosure. It has USB 3 type C and some other nifty features.
