This video shows how to lower your CPU "hit" or usage in Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), permitting an older or slower computer to stream with more headroom for running other programs, like browser windows, games or software applications. This applies to recording as well to streaming. The big secret is that your camera's resolution needs to be tamed to cut down on the CPU usage by that element alone! This video demonstrates what's going on and what you can do to fix it so the camera is taking up less CPU giving you much more headroom. The software used to monitor the CPU is Sysinternal's "Process Explorer" for Windows at Microsoft Technet: 🤍 Load it up and click the CPU monitor to bring up a full window view. It runs in your taskbar. There are other tweaks you can perform. Here is a good list. Though aimed at audio, they all are pertinent to video as well. 🤍

Technically not a fix, but a band aid / work around solution, as you have to do this sh!t each time. High CPU Usage: Ctrl + Alt + Del then task manager, then end the task Service Host: Windows Camera Frame Server when not using your camera obviously. The CPU spikes when it's looking for it, when you start OBS, or when your shut off the camera. Black Borders: In OBS, click on your camera area, so that it's highlighted. Hold down the left Alt key, while left mouse clicking on the red squares on each side, and drag it in, until the black borders are gone. Essentially, it's live cropping.
