Flawless high-quality audio output on a Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer! All is achieved by the IQaudio DAC+ HAT. Full Article (with Audio Analysis) - 🤍 Related Information Set Up Official Raspberry Pi LCD Touch Screen - 🤍 Raspberry Pi Imager Download Location - 🤍 Use Your Phone to Control Your Raspberry Pi - 🤍 Volumio Home Page - 🤍 Volumio Account Sign Up Page (Needed for Plugins) - 🤍 This dedicated DAC lets you enjoy high-quality, distortion-free, artifact-free, low noise, and high-bitrate audio playback from your Raspberry Pi single-board computer. A DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) is a device that takes digital audio (like an MP3 or WAV files) and converts it into an analog audio signal that can be readily understood by headphones or external speakers. A HAT is an anagram for Hardware Attached on Top, it refers to boards that easily plug directly on top of and improve the capabilities of the target board. A Stock Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer has Audio Output that comes out through the Headphone Auxiliary Port or through any of the HDMI Ports (which are visual and audio interfaces). This is perfectly fine for everyday use. However, if you are building a slim device that can deliver immersive media to high-quality speakers or headphones then these two default audio outputs are not up to scratch. That is where the IQaudio DAC+ HAT swoops in for the rescue. The IQaudio DAC boards (there's more than one type!) are the simplest and Raspberry Pi Foundation Officially Supported way to add crispy, refined, honey-dripped audio to any Pi project. In combination with Volumio, an open-source Audiophile Media Player OS, you can be up and running with a high-quality music playback system really quickly. Volumio officially supports the Official 7 Inch Raspberry Pi Screen, providing a great UI. It also provides remote control through the WIFI and Volumio Phone Application. Long live Zyzz. It’ll play pretty much any digital music file you’ve got. Including a bunch of internet radio stations and spotify, if you have a premium account. So why would you want Volumio. Well, I’m using it for these reasons: I had some really nice speakers that some friends gave me but the receiver was broken so I needed a replacement. We have a lot of old music in mp3’s that have been tucked away on old HD’s with no way to play them over the house speakers. I wanted a full featured audio player with integration for HA. The Volumio UI looks great and can be displayed easily on any device. Making an audio receiver/amp with Volumio an rpi and an amp hat is the absolute cheapest way to replace an old or broken amp. Some really smart guys told me it was cool. I usually don’t need much more convincing than that. Getting Volumio up and running is very simple. There is an rpi image available on their website. They have other disk images available if you want to use a different board. I want to use the sd card to store some mp3’s too, so I’m using a 64gb sd card. Burn the image to the card with etcher or your disk image burner of choice. When it’s done, put it in the rpi, connect your ethernet cable (or we can set up wifi in a minute), if you have external hd’s you can connect those now, attach an amp hat if you have one. For this Volumio pi I’m using this 2 channel amp hat. This particular one accepts 12v power to drive the speakers but also drops some of that voltage to run the pi, so I don’t have to provide a separate ps for the pi. There are a bunch of different amp modules. If you want to learn about this stuff from someone who really knows his stuff check out my good buddy Hans: 🤍

A comparison between "Moode Audio" and "Volumio" - two music streaming software products that are absolutely free and can run on a Rasperry Pi 3. When downloaded and written to a microSD card, they turn the Pi into a dedicated audio streamer device that can be connected to an amplifier and speakers. We have been using Volumio for about 6 months, and wanted to try a similar product. On the surface, Moode Audio has more features. However, I found Volumio had a better organized UI, and was more stable on my hardware, so I am sticking with that. Volumio is a professional product with a "free" version, while Moode appears to be entirely community supported. Despite my opinion you might find Moode better if you are into tweaking and jumping into the Linux command line (both products have ssh capability). 0:00 Intro 0:23 Purpose of these products 0:55 Affordable and Headless Audio Players 1:36 Attaching a supported touchscreen 1:52 Overall Impressions 2:30 NAS File Playback 3:00 Thumbnail fail... 3:15 Windows Casting and File Type Test 3:39 iPhone Airplay and Android Test 4:30 UPNP order re-arranged by Moode 5:15 Bluetooth only available on Moode 5:50 Volumio Plugins - better organization 6:05 Stability Notes and Conclusion Volumio Video (Prequel to this video): 🤍

This is my new network audio system. All in one Integrated Amplifier. 1. Raspberry Pi 4B. 2. Hifiberry DAC+DSP. 3. 7 inch touch screen for raspberry pi. 4. Chromecast audio. (for voice control & optical input.) 5. Icepower 250ASX. (power amp, 125W for each channel.) All of this in one box. 270(W) X 120(H) X 180(D) mm. And I add a USB keyboard and USB volume controller so I can physically turn up or down the volume and select the previous or next song. Of course I can also control it with touch screen. The keyboard panel is connected to the “previous” & “next” button switch, and the volume knob is connected to the “enter” key on the keyboard to support push stop and push play. Everything is included, so I only need to connect the speakers. I also installed Volumio, but in my case, Hifiberry OS was more intuitive and I was satisfied because it supports a USB keyboard. Of course, it can be remotely controlled from a smartphone or PC. Airplay as well as Bluetooth is supported. I connected the wireless remote control, too. I heard the DAC 2HD has better sound quality, but I chose the DAC+DSP because I needed a chromecast audio input. So it can supports chromecast audio input. It’s connected to Google Home, so I can use voice commands to select and turn music on or off. When the optical input is enabled, the Raspberry Pi input is automatically cut off. Chromecast audio is now discontinued, but I think it’s a really amazing product. It is small, cheap, and has functions that are only possible in Chromecast. For example, an analog output and an optical output are simultaneously supported with one hole. And it is the only solution that can connect audio with Google Assistant without coding. The Higiberry DAC+DSP has an optical input and an optical output terminal, so all you have to do is connect it to the Chromecast audio. It’s really simple. If there is an optical input signal, other inputs may be set to be blocked. So if you listen to Mozart on Spotify and say “Ok, Google, play Bach!”, Mozart will be stopped and Baha will be played. As you know, optical input has much less sound loss than Bluetooth. I compared it to analog input and the optical input made a much better sound. I love this. I made this case by stacking 18mm thick birch plywood. I made a drawing and asked the woodworking center to produce it. I’m a little worried that the inside will be too hot, but I think it’s okay. A cooling fan was also installed on the back lid. It’s a bit loud.
