Servo Mode vs One Shot AF Explained in 2 minutes (with troubleshooting) Servo mode AF acts as you would expect traditional 'continuous auto focus' to act. One Shot AF is quiet different and confused me started out because of the Green box that indicates the subject is in focus. However what this actually does is freeze the focus in that spot, allowing you to recompose your image if you wish before capturing your photo. After watching this video take our your camera and play around with both SERVO and ONE SHOT mode in regular M (manual) mode and then do the same in VIDEO mode and get familiar with the way they behave, so that when your out shooting your using the right setting for the right job. p.s I've not found ONE SHOT mode better suited even if my subject is still, I prefer SERVO mode whenever I need autofocus. The only way i could create a fair testing environment was to record the camera's EVF while the camera was focusing on a video that was playing on loop on the TV screen. I went through all pre-set Servo AF modes on the Canon R5 with the RF100-500 lens. Let's see the results. All work is my own.
